Am in the midst of reading the
above, and am liking the arguments put forth. Basically, Pink identifies 3 factors - Asia, Automation, and Abundance - that result in three questions that all individuals and organizations in a system (my word) should be asking.
Can what I/we do be done more cheaply by knowledge workers in Asia (e.g., software development, basic legal documents) or automated (e.g., many medical diagnoses, software development again), and does it contribute to people's needs in an age of affluence (such as a search for meaning, an interest in wellness, identification with brands or concepts).
Six high concept/high touch aptitudes or "senses" that Pink argues will become more important in the future are Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, Meaning. See a description
here.
Some book references for developing each of these appears
here.
A good read. I put it on my latest Spirit of the New Workplace recommended list. Reading it made me think of
The Experience Economy,
A New Earth - Discovering Your Life's Purpose, and
Made to Stick.
